This post needs no introduction – here are 20 diet tips – easy tips that might give you an idea or a boost when you need it:

  1. Start as you mean to go on. Your breakfast really is the most important meal of the day – if you have a healthy breakfast you will want to keep up the healthy eating, but get off to a bad start and it could be a disaster day for healthy food.
  2. Eat more fiber! Fiber fills you up and is good for you. It also helps speed digestion so that your other food doesn’t sit in your stomach.
  3. Eat single packages of food. Take control of what you eat and make sure you are having just one portion – especially if you are having a snack. If buying sinlge portions is more expensive then measure out your portions in advance.
  4. Never eat out of the container – e.g. ice cream! You will always eat much more than a single portion.
  5. Keep choice to a minimum. The more food you have to choose from the more you will eat. Plan your meals in advance so you know exactly what youre eating.
  6. Reward yourself – when you have been good and stuck to your diet reward yourself – not with fatty food :) But perhaps go and see a movie, or buy a new dress for example
  7. Get support – especially when you are tempted to comfort eat. The support of a friend or someone who will understand can be enough to pick you up and keep you on track.
  8. Keep a diary. This can help you look back at all the progress you have made when you are feeling down. It also increases your commitment as you have “someone to answer to”…
  9. Get someone to answer to! :) If you tell people about your diet then you will have to report to them. Letting ourselves down is one thing, but it gets harder when we fail infront of our peers.
  10. Set realistic goals. A lower weight loss target over a shorter period is better than a mountainous big goal – the little checkpoints will add up to your total in the end anyway.
  11. Eat healthier snacks – substitute fatty sugars for the natural sugars in fruit, or instead of that chocolate bar try a flavoured rice cake.
  12. Never go shopping when you are hungry – your stomach will prevail over logic, you will buy more than you need to, and more than likely fatty foods too.
  13. Do some exercise! Even 10 or 20 minutes a day will increase your heart rate, boost your metabolism and help you to burn some calories. You will lose weight much quicker with just a little bit of exercise.
  14. If exercise is difficult for you then try setting milestones – when you clock up 20 miles on a treadmill then allow yourself a mini treat snack – don’t get too carried away, but this will give you something to look forward to.
  15. Take up an exercise routine you enjoy – if the treadmill is tedious try yoga, or dance classes, swimming, anything that you would get some enjoyment out of too – exercise is much easier when you enjoy it.
  16. Steady, regular exercise is better than going all out and then burning yourself out or getting sick of it – do a little each day and you will be much more successful.
  17. Allways buy the low fat alternative. Many times there will still be sugar and probably still plenty of fat in low fat ice creams etc, but if you have to have some always pick the low fat version. Especially of things like chocolate, mayonaisse, and ice cream.
  18. Drink ice water. Putting ice in your water means your stomach has to work harder (burn more calories) to process it, and reheat the body afterwards.
  19. Leave some food on your plate. You don’t have to finish your whole plate every time – stop eating when you are full.
  20. Eat fruit on a morning. Fruit on an empty stomach acts as a detox and will help your digestive system for the rest of the day.
