Benefits of the Grapefruit Diet Plan

There are many different variations of this diet, but the basic plan is the same: eat half a grapefruit before each meal to get the benefits of the vitamins and other chemicals in grapefruit that help to burn fat off.
The grapefruit diet plan is a quick and easy way to lose 10lbs or even more, as the diet lasts only 12 days, and is a good way to kick-start a longer-term diet.
A typical day on this diet would include:
- For breakfast: Half a grapefruit + two eggs (prepared any way you want) and 2 slices of bacon
- For lunch: Half a grapefruit + any amount of meat and some vegetables or salad
- For dinner: Half a grapefruit + meat or fish cooked however you prefer and some salad or vegetables, again.
Remember that you must eat half a grapefruit before each meal! Foods that are not allowed on this diet include most carbohydrates such as pasta, potatoes and cereal.
The principle behind eating a grapefruit is that it gives you a lot of energy and helps to balance your diet, but the main point is that it helps to make you feel full, so that you do not eat a full meal and do not eat too much of the type of food which is bad for you.
The main problem with the grapefruit diet plan is that it is not meant as a long-term solution due to the low amount of calories you will be consuming while on the diet. Another problem is that it cuts out things needed in a balanced diet, such as carbohydrates. It is not recommended to keep repeating this 12 day diet, but rather it is meant as a stepping stone onto a long-term diet to help keep the weight off.

This diet is definately not a long term solution. People wonder why they don’t keep the weight off. Well they go back to regular bad habits. No kidding!
The Grapefruit Diet is basically an Atkins variation. I am weary about the claims that the Grapefruit alone is a fat burning property. There are also claims that it is the combination of the Grapefruit and the proteins in the eggs, bacon and other sources.
Personally I believe that it is simply the calorie deficit responsible for weight loss. The diet itself is health (except the bacon). You would of course need more calories for long term food choices. I think that is why I like juice diets or vegan diets because they build an appreciation for the lifestyle change that is required for long term benefits.
