Here are 10 easy tips you can follow to make sure you stick to your diet and lose weight – if you are wanting to start a new weight loss plan then scan the tips below to see if you have everything covered, or if there is anything which will help you to stay on track:

  1. Don’t cut out everything you enjoy. Enjoy the occasional takeaway, but  save up the calories to really earn it. If you restrict yourself to just fruit and veg you probably give up pretty quick.
  2. Eat the lower fat version of your favourite foods – there’s no reason to cut them out alltogether – you can ‘tweak’ them a bit: low fat cheese, low fat spreads, light ice cream, low fat yoghurts etc.
  3. Write everything down. When you write things down you will feel more accountable, and will also know where you have gone wrong at a glance.
  4. Use scales – Make sure you are eating the right sized portions!
  5. Broadcast your goals – make a diary, tell friends, do a video journal – anything to make your weight loss a real commitment, and out in the open – if you tell people they will ask you about it, it gives you a level of responsibility and people to answer to. Also if you only make the goals and keep them to yourself they are easier to break – make a real commitment and tell your friends and family what you are doing.
  6. Visualize the motivation – Put a wedding invitation or holiday photograph on your fridge – it will keep you on track when you are close to giving in and reaching for the fatty foods again – it will help you to remember your end goal and why you are being strict at the minute.
  7. Buy some new clothes – This will act as a treat and boost your motivation and keep you commited – giving you something positive to aim for i.e. to fit into the smalle sized jeans.
  8. Vary your exercise routine – do the cross trainer one day, walk the next, then cycle after that – varying your workout keeps you interested and stops you from getting bored due ot the same activities each day.
  9. Never give up! You will have bad days, but the difference between failure and success is either letting your bad day get to you so much that it becomes a bad week / month, or bouncing back from your bad days, accepting them but returning to your plan harder than ever, and continuing to lose weight.
  10. Get some extra help – immerse yourself in weight loss, read about it, or even get a tool such as a hypnosis cd or weight loss subliminal cd – anything to make weight loss a permenant part of your life and keep your willpower high and your motivation strong.
